Hello Everyone,

We got our first report on the welling digging project from Khubaib Foundation. The report gives us breakdown of how the funds were used, and the results of pre-well medical survey. We should be getting the first of four post-well medical surveys by end of May/beginning of June.

Thank you Omar for scanning the document for us.

Also wanted to let you know that Khubaib Foundation has asked us if we would be interested in funding a computer class programme in Multan Jail. This would involve setting up 10 computers on the jail premise. The prisioners would be receiving computer lessons, and after completing the course potentially get some time off their sentence (this is a special agreement between Khubaib and the Govt. of Pakistan). I have asked for more details on this projects, but wanted to see what you all think about doing this project?

Nadia

PS have tried really hard to upload the report. So far no luck. Will get one of the NA folks to see if they can get it loaded on the forum.

Nadia,

I didn't see any pre- and post water sample data. Could you ask them to send us those (perhaps with an explanation on "safe levels" of different components). Would be very interesting to see how the water quality has improved, since the health impact may take longer to assess.

Tarim great catch. I totally missed the water samples. I have written to Khubaib requesting that they provide us with this information. Since the well is already in place, getting the pre-water samples may be rough. I have suggested another water supply from the Multan jail. Will let you know when I hear back.

The post water samples will probably come in our next report.

Also will try to meet up with the Khubaib folks in a couple of days. Am planning an Isloo trip week of April 3rd. The main discussion will be the well-digging project and potential prision welfare projects at the Multan Jail (most likely the computer project).

Nadia, should we upload this report to the ADP web site? It'll be good for visitors to see results and know that our work is real.

Adnan, since not all visitors will open reports, should we add a tab for "Updates" on the project pages which the PCs can add to in order to keep folks posted on progress?

Lets keep that suggestion around. I know that there is another one regarding adding a status for each project on its page. Once I get enough feedback I can work on the minor changes all at once. This way it its easier to design the layout once you know exactly what information needs to be displayed.

To let you all know that we have received a project proposal from Khubaib for a Computer Lab in the Multan Jail. Here is the project summary. Will post the complete proposal when i get the soft-copy.

Name of Project: Establishment of the The Computer Center In the Women Jail Multan
Location of Project: Women Jail, Multan
Name of NGO: Khubaib Foundation
Per Year Beneficiaries: 180
Project Period: 5 years

Establishment Cost: Rs. 734,,400
Running Cost: Rs. 12,000 per Month

The program will educate, train and rehabilitate the inmates and reclaim them for becoming a useful person of society, this breaking the vicious cycle of the crimes.

Let me know your initial thoughts....

Seems like a worthy effort. Doing something like this would help us get closer to our objective of continuity with projects and NGOs as well. I see the biggest limiting factor being the $12k budget, which is currently beyond our capabilities.

Should we start a new thread in the projects section on this?

$12K is a large sum, however since this is over 5 years, I think it can be manageable. My concern is again to determine how valuable is computer knowledge for women that are in jails. I wonder if instead we can work with them to create a vocational center. We should discuss this in our next meeting.

Bilal

Ps. I am not able to download the report, is anyone having the same issue?
