Dear All,
This section is to coordinate the localized relief efforts of the new California Chapter. We will of course continue to help with the fundraising efforts on the ADP national scale. All ideas are welcome and needed!
Thanks,
Mahjabeen

I am posting a message below from Yasir, president of the San Jose State Pakistani Students organization. It is an excellent event that they are putting together and would be a good opportunity to help with fundraising.

We would like ADP representatives to attend our Iftaar meeting. It is
on
October 18th, Tuesday at San Jose State University. I have attached the
details of the event in this email. We would like you to address the
gathering and possibly collect more donations in the process.
Please give us more details as to how the money will be utilized, by
which
NGO, in which areas.
Sincerely,
Yasir Khan

A friend of mine, Faheem Ahmed, just forwarded information on Hidaya foundation. They are collecting new/used warm clothes, blankets etc. We could start a collection drive. Hadiya foundation seems to have figured out how to deal with all the customs issues etc so they would be a good organization to donate supplies to.
Also we could organize a volunteer day and go help them pack and ship the items.

One of the things I had in mind was to start planning for Eid events. There will be a lot of good opportunities during those days for fund raising.
1- Have a booth in Santa Clara Fair Grounds. I believe like last year this is where the eid festival is going to be held. I am not sure who the organizers for this event are, but we will be able to get a hold of them and hopefully they will give us a booth at minimum fee.
2- Have a booth at Chandni Raat in Fremont. Chandni Restaurant has this every year the night before the eid. A lot of people and a lot of vendors come that night. I will see if I can get a hold of one of the owners of Chandni restaurant for this.
Also lets brain storm on how we can have these Pakistani restaurants hold fund raising iftars for us.
I am invited to an iftar at a Pakistani restaurant this coming weekend. About 100+ people are going to be there. I am trying to come up with ideas to be able to raise some funds and/or give some exposure to ADP there.

ASalam Alikum ,
Please forward this to those who may be interested.
Pak Relief needs volunteers in NYC, TOronto, Chicago, Edmonton, Vancouver, and any other city where People would like to send CLOTHES mainly BLANKETS(thick) and sleeping bags to Pakistan. We need volunteers to help with the collection, packaging and taking supplies to the drop zones. Please email myself ASAP with your name number and location if you would like to help. To webmasters, and leaders of organizations please tell your members about this and have them contact me asap.
We have so far assigned two managers to handle their regions, we may need more.

p.s. We have a team of doctors ready to roll. They recently set up field hospitals in the Gulf Coast for the Katrina relief. We're working hard to get them all their surgical supplies back and have them ready with their needed medical equipment, however we also need funding to fly them to Pakistan. Currently PIA, and the government of Pakistan are working on logistics for that, if you know of a business that could finance this trip, please contact me ASAP.

Both the Chandni Raat and the Santa Clara options sound like good venues. We should discuss them and decide soon if we want to do that because we will need to move quickly to get all the materials ready.

PAS (Stanford University) will be donating to the President's fund through ADP. They also wanted us to recommend any other organization that was working both in Pakistan and India.
I recommended AID India and Islamic Relief. Are there any other organization out there to recommend?
Please let me know.

Hi Sheeza,
I don't think we have a member out in Southern Califorina. If you are interested in volunteering with ADP then let us know. There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes so we are always looking for volunteers.
If you are looking for something more local I would recommend volunteering with an local organization. Everyone is short on volunteers and I think that may be your best option at the moment.

Sheeza,
In addition to Mahjabeen's suggestion, ADP has begun to place outreach coordinators in the different cities where we have a presence. A page with this information will be added to our website today.
If you do volunteer with another organization, please keep us informed here and consider becoming the ADP coordinator for your area. Where are you based? I'm not sure if you are the first ADP volunteer in your area, but there are likely to be others soon. We want to do as much as possible to provide a coordinated response to this disaster.
If you are not already on the ADP network, please go to our website and sign up, so we can keep you informed/involved as our response evolves.
Regards!
Justin

Danish,
If I understand the criteria, it looks like the ADP strategy does not have enough form yet. Do you agree? Perhaps we could try this in a week or two, when we have selected an NGO/project. Let me know if I have misundertood the context.
Also, did you get my e-mail regarding help with NGO/project outreach?
~Justin
