A presentation at NUS in Singapore
Note: This post was written by Omar Bilal, the ADP Singapore chapter lead.
The place chosen for our first ever ADP session in Singapore, on the 31st of July, was the student hostel of Prince George’s Park Residences at the National University of Singapore. The event was attended by a decent blend of current Pakistani students in various phases of their undergraduate education and alumni who are employed full-time in Singapore.
The aim of the session was to introduce ADP and tell people how they can get involved. Shahan Zafar, Diligence Manager and one of the Senior Leadership team members of ADP, presented a top-down view of the organization, spoke about the ideology behind ADP and walked through examples of projects that have been successfully evaluated and funded in the past.
The post-presentation Q&A session was extremely interactive. A lot of thoughtful questions were raised by the attendees and equally well responded to by Shahan. The questions centered on topics as varied as how ADP mobilises its volunteers on the ground before embarking on a project, how post-completion project monitoring is done and whether ADP has adequate legal and governmental resources at its disposal to make sure it is in compliance with best practices.
It was a productive 2 hour session which allowed people to get a good sense of the ADP philosophy. A lot of positive interest was seen and this will hopefully channel into something bigger for ADP in Singapore in the near future. For now, our Singapore volunteers are raring to be a part of the fantastic work being done by ADP.
